Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Meet the Haverhill Team Behind Top Hat Chimney
Top Hat Chimney has been working in Haverhill homes since 1999, which means most of our crew has pulled up to a driveway and already known which neighbor recommended us. We’re not a rotating cast of subcontractors. The people who show up at your door are the same ones you’ll see at the transfer station on Saturday morning. What unites us is simple: we treat your chimney like it belongs to someone we’ll run into again. Because in Haverhill, we will.
Our People
Wendell Pike, Owner and Lead Technician
Wendell started Top Hat Chimney in 1999 with one truck, a set of brushes, and a firm belief that most chimney problems get expensive only after they get ignored. He’s been on more Haverhill roofs than he can count, and he still does the sweeps and repairs himself instead of just signing the paperwork. Wendell holds certifications from the Chimney Safety Institute of America and has trained every technician who’s ever worked under the Top Hat name. If you call after hours, there’s a good chance he’s the one who picks up. He’s also the guy behind the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t right, he wants to hear about it directly, because his name is on the work and he means that literally.
Mike D., Senior Installer
Mike has been installing chimney liners and rebuilds with Top Hat for 14 years. He’s our lead on DuraFlex and HeatShield jobs, which means he’s the one measuring flue dimensions, cutting stainless steel liner to spec, and making sure the pour-down insulation sets correctly the first time. Before chimneys, Mike framed houses, so when a crown is cracked and the damage goes deeper into the masonry, he knows exactly what he’s looking at. He’s the quiet one on the crew, but ask him about fly fishing the Merrimack and you’ll get a real conversation. He lives in Bradford and still gets a little annoyed when people call the Ward Hill connector a shortcut.
Sarah T., Service Coordinator
Sarah is the voice on the other end of (978) 724-7935. She’s been with Top Hat for nine years and runs the schedule, the estimate follow-ups, and the second-opinion requests. Sarah grew up in Haverhill and worked dispatch for a local HVAC company before joining us, so she understands furnace flues as well as fireplace flues. She’s the reason you get an actual arrival window instead of “sometime between 8 and 5,” and she’s the one who calls if the schedule slips, which it rarely does. Sarah keeps a running mental list of which Haverhill streets have tight driveway clearances, so don’t be surprised if she asks how far back the truck can pull in.
Danny R., Apprentice Sweep
Danny joined the crew two years ago after spending his early twenties working roofing crews around Essex County. He’s logged over 400 supervised sweeps and is working through his CSIA certification with Wendell. Danny handles the setup, the drop cloths, the HEPA vacuum, and the brush work on straight-run flues. He’s also the one who takes the before-and-after camera footage, and Wendell reviews every frame with him before it ever gets shown to you. Danny lives in Haverhill near Plug Pond and is, according to the rest of the crew, unreasonably excited when a job involves removing a squirrel nest. Not because it’s fun. Because he gets to tell the story at dinner.
One Standard, Every Job
Every Top Hat Chimney customer in Haverhill gets the same deal, whether the phone call goes to Wendell or Sarah or the work falls to Mike or Danny. The price you hear before the truck unloads is the price on the invoice. The sweep includes camera inspection and photo documentation. If the crew spots a liner issue or a cracked flue tile, you’ll see the footage and hear a plain-English explanation of what it means, not a pressure speech. Every job, from a basic cleaning to a full rebuild, is stamped with the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, one call brings Wendell back. That’s been the standard since 1999, and it hasn’t changed because the truck got newer. Ask anyone on your street.
